Volunteer Opportunities

Each year, over 1,500 volunteers come together to help the Vermont Foodbank deliver services to our neighbors facing hunger. These dedicated people share their time, passion, and commitment to fighting hunger with us. The fact is, we couldn’t do the work we do with them, and, without you! Interested in what types of volunteer opportunities we have available?

Community Repacking

Each weekday from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., volunteers sort and re-pack food, build and pack boxes for the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) or sort fresh produce. Each distribution location has varying availability. By appointment in Barre, Rutland, and Brattleboro.

Gleaning

Harvesting surplus produce from Vermont farms during the growing season. This is a fun outdoor, family-friendly volunteer experience. Southern Vermont, Rutland County, and Chittenden County. Learn more about gleaning!

Direct Distribution

Assist Foodbank staff at hospitals and schools throughout the state of Vermont. Share healthy food at a VeggieVanGo event or distribute food to seniors at Commodity Supplemental Food Program locations. These are generally bi-monthly or monthly commitments.

Special Events

We have many events throughout the state that are made possible by volunteers like you! Groups and individuals are encouraged to sign up. View our upcoming events!

Ready to join us and help your neighbors facing hunger?

Please note that all volunteer applications take 1-2 business days to process. Volunteer Services will be in touch with you regarding your application but until then, you will not be able to see events on the volunteer calendar. Thank you for your interest.

Youth Volunteer Policy

Children under 14 years of age are not permitted to volunteer in the Foodbank warehouses due to insurance restrictions. However, gleaning opportunities are open to all ages. If a group of school-age children wish to come to the Foodbank to learn about the work we do, take a tour, and talk about age-appropriate ways to become involved, please contact Volunteer Services at  volunteer@vtfoodbank.org.

Sign up for our monthly Volunteer E-newsletter for all of the latest volunteer opportunities.
