Summer Food Service Program

The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) is a USDA-reimbursed program that is sponsored by organizations and food banks throughout the nation and provides food-insecure children with free, nutritious meals during the summer months when school is not in session. The Vermont Foodbank launched its SFSP in 2009 and provides wholesome breakfasts and lunches and to children in low-income communities five days per week during the summer and also provides educational and recreational activities in a safe, fun and welcoming environment.

During the summer of 2011, the Vermont Foodbank sponsored two sites:

  • Canaan School
  • Brighton Elementary School in Island Pond

Each site provided breakfast and lunch for a total of 2,393 meals.
