Vermont Foodbank Needs Your Help
Burlington Free Press
Free Press Staff
The story in the Free Press had this headline which should catch your attention:
"Vt. Foodbank falls short in fundraising."
This means simply there is insufficient food on the shelves for people without.
We're going to see more of this as time goes by. All food banks are reporting requests for more assistance. This is not imagined. People are hurting.
Nearly 300 food shelves and meal sites rely on the Vermont Foodbank for support.
Here's how need is growing, as the Free Press story noted:
The Chittenden Food Shelf is serving 1,000 more families than last year.
The Central Vermont Community Action Food Shelf has seen an increase of 90 percent in need over six months.
The Barre Salvation Army reports a 50 percent increase in need.
Need is the operative word of this winter. We must dig deep and do what we can to provide assistance to the Vermont Foodbank.
