Burlington Free Press
April 27, 2009

BARRE -- During its March pledge drive, Vermont Public Radio gave listeners the opportunity for donate to public radio and support the Vermont Foodbank, with the support of the Vermont Community Foundation. For every donation to VPR, the Community Foundation donated five meals to the Foodbank.

At the end of the drive, VPR had exceeded its fundraising goal and the Vermont Foodbank was presented with a donation of 41,000 meals from the Vermont Community Foundation.

Nearly all of the 270 partners served by the Foodbank -- food shelves, meals sites, senior centers, shelters and after-school programs -- have seen a 25 percent to 30 percent increase in requests for food assistance in the past 10 months.
