VERMONT FOODBANK CEO ACCEPTS POSITION AT MARYLAND FOOD BANK

BARRE—The Vermont Foodbank Board of Trustees is announcing that CEO Deborah Flateman has accepted the position as Executive Director of the Maryland Food Bank, a member of America’s Second Harvest—The Nation’s Food Bank Network (A2HN).

During Deborah’s tenure with the Vermont Foodbank, the organization has grown into one of the top performing food banks in the country.  Last year, the Vermont Foodbank distributed 6.4 million pounds of food to more than 270 Network Partners in very county.  In a recent study conducted by A2HN, Vermont ranked 13th in a network of over 210 food banks throughout the country, based on the effectiveness of a food bank’s ability to serve those living at or below the federal poverty guidelines.

When the founding Executive Director of the Maryland Food Bank, Bill Ewing, announced that he was moving to Maine, the performance of the Vermont Foodbank came to mind, and the leadership of Deborah Flateman was sought. Nationally known for its effectiveness and efficiency, the Vermont Foodbank has become a model for food banks around the country.

In the heart of Baltimore, the Maryland Food Bank serves nearly 500 agencies and distributes 13 million pounds of food annually.  Of the transition, Flateman had this to say, “The Vermont Foodbank—the staff and our network of partners throughout the state--have seen much growth in the last ten years and have responded by stepping up to the challenges of serving an increasing population. The Vermont Foodbank is operating at an exceptional level and it seems the perfect time to hand the operation over to new leadership.  I am sure that the Vermont Foodbank board of trustees and the staff will ensure that the next CEO will be of the highest quality and will allow for a seamless transition.  While it will be hard to leave and start anew, I look forward to the challenges that await me in Maryland.”
