VERMONT FOODBANK RECEIVES $5, 579 FROM HANNAFORD SUPERMARKETS

(Barre Vermont)---In its third year, the Hannaford Have a Heart for Hunger campaign raised $5, 578.69 for the Vermont Foodbank.  The funds raised through the Hannaford program will provide 12,621 meals for local residents in need.  

Under the terms of the program, which ran throughout the month of February, customers could make donations at the register by selecting a donation coupon in $2 or $5 denominations.  Hannaford customers and associates supported the effort to provide assistance to local hunger relief agencies.

In presenting the check to Vermont Foodbank Chief Executive Officer, Deborah Flateman,  Hannaford South Barre Store Manager Melissa Roberge said, “Hannaford is proud to play an active role in strengthening the communities we serve and is a strong supporter in the fight against hunger.  We recognize the dedicated work of food bank staff and volunteers who make a difference each day.”

Deborah Flateman had this to say of Hannaford’s commitment to ending hunger, “We can all learn from Hannaford's example. Beyond their "Have a Heart for the Hungry" program, Hannaford provides volunteers and food, including a frozen meat rescue program that provides tens of thousands of pounds of protein to our Network. That is a true corporate commitment to ending hunger.”

In total, Hannaford Supermarkets raised over $70,000 through the 2006 Hannaford Have a Heart for Hunger campaign.  The funds were allocated based on store location and the food banks’ service areas.  One hundred percent of the funds raised were donated to food banks in the five states where Hannaford has stores.  In three years, the program has raised more than $255,000 for America’s Second Harvest agencies.
