Salvation Farms, a program of the Vermont Foodbank presents: Free Food! A wild edibles walk with Nova Kim and Les Hook
Have you ever wandered through the woods wondering what you could do with the plants underneath your feet and all around? On Saturday September 27 from 10AM to NOON, Nova Kim and Les Hook will be available to guide you through the wooded setting of the Hazen Trail system and answer many of your foraging questions. Nova Kim and Les Hook describe themselves as having 80 years of combined experience hunting for food and medicine from the wild. “They promote the use of wild edibles while conducting and collecting research on the various plant forms (native and immigrant) occurring in the wild, encouraging and educating the public to the benefits derived from their usage, and helping to preserve the plants' natural habitat, thus ensuring a continuing supply for generations to come."
The workshop will be held on the Hazen Trail System behind the Hazen Union High School on North Main Street in Hardwick. Rain or shine, Nova and Les will lead the group through the forest, hunting for edibles and sharing their knowledge of useful plants and mushrooms. Please wear comfortable shoes, bring any food or water you need, pad and pencil or camera, and clear packing tape. Donations will be accepted for the Vermont Foodbank and Les and Nova’s expenses.
Free Food! is sponsored by Salvation Farms, a program of the Vermont Foodbank and the Hazen Trails Organization. Salvation Farms is proud to offer the public this workshop on creative use of the food resources all around us, leading to a more food secure community.
