BDCC (Brattleboro Development Credit Corporation) announces that today they signed a lease with Vermont Foodbank for 20,000 square feet in the Business Park building, known locally as the Book Press. Ed Fox, Interim Co-CEO of the Vermont Foodbank, and Jeffrey Lewis, Executive Director of BDCC, signed for their respective organizations.
The lease which takes effect on November 1, 2008 will enable the Vermont Foodbank to better serve Southern Vermont. The new facility will allow for a more centralized distribution point for Windsor, Windham, and Bennington Counties, allowing for greater access to Foodbank resources by Southern Vermont food shelves, meal sites, senior centers, after-school programs, etc. This undertaking is part of the Foodbank’s strategic plan for expanding services in an effective and efficient way.
The 20,000 square foot space will be utilized for food storage, sorting, and delivery. Over the next year, the Vermont Foodbank will retrofit the space, adding offices, freezer and cooler capacity, racking, sorting rooms, parking, and access for the public.
The Foodbank will have four to six staff in the new facility. They have already hired a director of the Southern Branch, Maurice Casey, an experienced manager in food distribution with experience at Foodshare Connecticut and area grocery chains.
BDCC is the regional development corporation for Windham County, Vermont. They own and operate the Cotton Mill facility and the Business Park to attract and support business.
