Governor Douglas to Present $42,000 Check to the Vermont Foodbank

Governor Douglas Presents $42,000 Check to Vermont Foodbank
Barre, VT – Governor Jim Douglas today presented the Vermont Foodbank with a check for over $42,000 from donations raised at the Governor’s Inaugural Ball this January. In addition to the monetary contribution, over 800 pounds of food was also donated at the door during the Inaugural Ball in January.
“More and more Vermonters have to rely on organizations like the Foodbank to get them through these difficult economic times,” the Governor said. “That is why I am grateful for the generosity of so many who contributed to this worthy cause.”
Governor Douglas presented the check to Christine Foster, Interim Co-Chief Executive Officer at the Vermont Foodbank this morning. “We are thrilled that Governor Douglas chose the Vermont Foodbank to receive the proceeds from the Governor’s Inaugural Ball.,” said Foster. “Our deep appreciation is extended to the individuals and businesses that supported the Governor’s Inaugural Ball organization—they are clearly committed to ensuring that every Vermonter has access to the food they need each day.”
The contribution will help the Vermont Foodbank acquire and distribute over 126,000 pounds of food all across Vermont.
“Vermonters have once again demonstrated their tremendous generosity,” Governor Douglas continued. “The Vermont Foodbank provides an essential service to countless Vermont families. That is why I’m happy to support this great organization.”
The Vermont Foodbank distributes food donated by commercial suppliers, individuals and other sources to their member agencies. The Governor’s donation will help advance the Foodbank’s mission of ending hunger in Vermont
