The Harpoon Point to Point  is the Vermont Foodbank’s premiere fundraising event, and it couldn’t happen without our wonderful riders who fundraise on our behalf. Last year’s event saw 653 riders, who together raised $121,487! The Foodbank can acquire and distribute 40 pounds of food for each $10 donation – so last year’s fundraising resulted in  more than 728,000 meals to Vermonters in need.

Riders that register for either the 115 or 50 mile ride have a $150 minimum fundraising requirement. 25 mile riders are encouraged to also fundraise. We are fortunate to have many riders who go above and beyond with their fundraising efforts. After taking fundraising to a whole new level and being our top fundraiser for the past five years, a Harpoon Point to Point fundraising award was rightfully named after Keely Marie – who personally raised $16,000 in 2010. Last year’s Keely award winner (given to our second highest fundraiser) was Paul Fox, who raised $5,725. Check out the most recent fundraising rankings for the 2012 ride here.

This year’s fundraising goal is $150,000. As the state’s largest hunger-relief organization, we are seeing that the need for help in Vermont is higher than ever. Last year, the Vermont Foodbank distributed more than 8 million pounds of food, the most in our 26-year history. 27,160 Vermont children struggle with hunger each year. More than 8,200 different people receive emergency food assistance in any given week in our state. The Harpoon Point to Point is the Vermont Foodbank’s largest single-day fundraiser. In the ten year history of this event, $446,869 has been raised for the Foodbank. That is 2,681,214 meals! The role our riders play in the fight against hunger is truly invaluable.
