The importance of safety net programs is to assist our neighbors in getting back on their feet.  A strong country must recognize that this is a shared responsibility.  We have all heard anecdotal stories of “dependency,” but how many of us are one illness, injury, divorce or job loss away from needing some help to getting back to where we want to be?  If we just let our neighbors fall and stay down the county is setting itself up for a tragic future.  Here is one story.
