“My introduction to Vermont Foodbank came through the urgency of hunger. Soon after moving to Burlington, Vermont, I was temporary homeless which led me to the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf.  There I received good hot meals, a safe space and more importantly information to medical and social resources. Then again when I was starting my new Gluten Free business, through the connection of The Vermont Foodbank and CVOEO, I found The Community Kitchen Program.   I learned hard and invaluable lessons from Chefs Jamie Eisenberg and Brian Dermody, picking up the vital skills needed to be a professional baker and maintain a commercial kitchen.  Now, Chef Papi’s Gluten Free, LLC’s has a social mission committed to providing job skills to “hard-to-employ” residents. Since a cycle that started with my own hunger has come around to feeding those in need, I am excited to be part of the magic Hat Artifactory OKTOBERFEAST, because it benefits the Vermont Foodbank!”   Miguel Bernard-Rivera, Chef Papi Gluten Free

“The inspiration to support the Vermont Foodbank/Montpelier Pantry really comes from the awareness the Foodbank has raised regarding the issue of hunger in our communities.  While attending the 2011 Hunger Conference it struck me that a dedicated approach to donating food, even on a small level like my new food business could contribute, would be incredibly helpful.  As a result we committed donating 2% of each of our cooking yields to the Foodbank/food shelves.” Jeff Weinstein, Two Guys in Vermont
