Families with kids (ages 6-15) are invited to tour the Vermont Foodbank Barre distribution center and help us pack and sort food to benefit our neighbors in need… all in one morning! This is a great way to learn about hunger in Vermont while enjoying kid-friendly activities and snacks.  Join us for Family Philanthropy Day on September 14th from 9:00-11:00 am.  To sign up, please complete this form.

This is an opportunity to engage kids and parents in a volunteer activity—to be philanthropic—to help those in need. This is a hands-on activity that serves several purposes by engaging kids and parents in a project to benefit others as well as providing a venue to talk about what it means to be philanthropic in an effort to educate children to become tomorrow’s donors, volunteers and advocates.

Working side-by-side, kids and adults will pack food that will ultimately end up on someone’s dinner table, or as a snack in their backpack.  Volunteers will tour the Foodbank so they to see firsthand the staggering amount of food that actually gets loaded into our trucks destined for a food shelf, youth program, or meal site.

Parents often contact us to ask if there is any way their child can help. On Family Philanthropy Day, a safe environment is created in the warehouse and the work is appropriate for young children.  It is our hope that each child and parent leaves with the understanding that not everyone can open their refrigerator door to find it full of nutritious food, but confident and empowered with the knowledge that each one of us can do something to help provide hope to those less fortunate.
Join us today!

Can’t join us on September 14th?  Consider volunteering in some other capacity or donating to the Vermont Foodbank.  $1 helps us provide 3 meals to Vermonters in need.
