November 7th, 2017 – I’d like to take a few words to celebrate our local community businesses. I do this not only because of the financial and volunteer support they provide, which is significant, but also because of the bedrock these businesses provide for the neighbors we serve.

It is the small independent businesses, that employ so many in our towns and cities, whose paychecks circulate right back into the local community and create a multiplier effect for each dollar. It is these businesses that keep tabs on the kids and older Vermonters who are regulars, worrying about them when they don’t show up and making sure they have what they need, even if they can’t always pay today. It’s about passion and love, not just dollars and cents.

So let’s celebrate and patronize our community businesses. They were feeding our neighbors long before your Foodbank existed, and they’ll be here long after we’re gone.

Thanks for all the support.
