December 12, 2018, Barre, VT— Today, NorthCountry Federal Credit Union presented the Vermont Foodbank with a donation of $50,000 to help feed people in the state struggling with hunger. This gift will support the Foodbank’s work of providing nutritious food and promoting health through their statewide network of community partners, working to end hunger for the 153,000 Vermonters who struggle to afford food.

Giving back to the community has always been a priority for NorthCountry Federal Credit Union. Last year they donated $394,352 and 760 hours of staff volunteer time to 218 local nonprofits. And with this gift to the Vermont Foodbank, they are taking a stand against hunger in Vermont.

“The Vermont Foodbank makes a difference every day in the lives of Vermonters,” states Bob Morgan, CEO, NorthCountry Federal Credit Union. “They provide our neighbors with healthy, fresh food and needed resources to help ease the burden of poverty and hunger. The Vermont Foodbank’s successful and varied programs have a direct impact on our community and we are happy to support their good works.”

In Vermont, 1 in 4 people turn to the Vermont Foodbank each year for food assistance. To meet the need, the Foodbank provides nutritious food through a network of 215 food shelves, meal sites, senior centers and after-school programs, and directly to families, children, older adults and individuals at schools and hospitals. This donation will help put more food on the tables of people struggling to access the food they need.

“This generous gift makes a real difference in the lives of our neighbors facing hunger,” says Vermont Foodbank CEO, John Sayles. “Every day we hear stories from the people we serve – mothers who skip meals so that their kids can eat, older Vermonters who have to choose between paying for food and paying for medication, and families trying to make sure their kids can eat healthy meals on a limited budget. This gift will change those stories for the better. Because of this support, real families and individuals throughout Vermont will have a place to turn to access the food they need. This is transformational and gets to the core of what it means to build a healthy foundation for our community. Thank you to NorthCountry Federal Credit Union for changing lives!”
