During apple harvest season, individuals, civic groups and companies are encouraged to visit a participating orchard to pick and purchase extra apples for Vermonters facing hunger. The Vermont Foodbank will then distribute them through our statewide network of food shelves and meal sites to our friends and neighbors struggling to afford healthy food.

Since 2009, this program has provided more than 100,000 pounds of locally grown, fresh-picked nutritious apples to Vermonters in need.

Consider spending a day at one of Vermont’s orchards this coming season and Pick for Your Neighbor! If you’re a corporate group looking to participate, learn more here. If you’re a civic group looking to participate, learn more here. If you’re an individual, just head to your participating orchard and let them know you’re planning to Pick For Your Neighbor!

Apple picking makes for a great photo op! Don’t forget to post your photos on social media, tag @VermontFoodbank and use #HungerActionMonth #ApplesForAll #PickForYourNeighbor.

Pick for Your Neighbor is sponsored by Front Porch Forum. Your contributions also make this program possible. Please consider giving to the Vermont Foodbank today.
