If you are thinking Brussels sprouts have gotten better over the years, you’re right! In the 18th century Brussels sprouts made their way to the United States from Brussels. They were valued for their nutritional properties and their cabbage-like taste, their popularity (yes, popularity) spread across the Americas. In the late 1960’s flavor was sacrificed for ease of harvesting; the result was a plant that matured evenly but tasted incredibly bitter. Thankfully and successfully, in the 90’s effort was put into correcting this flavor injustice and the modern-day Brussels sprout was born. So, if a past experience with these little crucifers left a bad taste in your mouth, give them a second chance.
