Three ingredients with so many possibilities. Cinnamon Apples with Maple Syrup is simple to make yet complex in flavor.  The sweet-tart flavor of an apple pairs beautifully with the warm spice of ground cinnamon and the rich caramelized flavor of sap (we call it maple syrup). The secret to bringing these flavors together is dusting the apple slices with cinnamon. The ground cinnamon will pull juice from the slices; once topped with the maple syrup the juice from the apple slices combine with the syrup and cinnamon to make a lovely sauce that is lick the plate worthy.  With so many varieties available for each of these ingredients the flavor combinations are seemingly endless. See down below for a hot apple variation. Happy fall, y’all!

Ingredients

  • 1 apple

  • Good shake of cinnamon

  • 1 Tbsp. maple syrup

Instructions

  1. Wash apple and pat dry.
  2. Using an apple corer/ wedger (I like one that cuts into 16 wedges) cut apple. This can also be done with a paring knife.
  3. Dust with cinnamon and drizzle with maple syrup. Syrup may also be served on the side for dipping.
  4. Serve immediately. Enjoy!

Variation: Put apple slices and cinnamon in microwave safe bowl, add 1/8 teaspoon of water, tightly cover with plastic wrap and poke holes to vent.  Microwave for 1 to 2 minutes until apples are tender.  Let stand for 1 minute and carefully remove from microwave and uncover.  Top with maple syrup and enjoy.

Apple Storage Tip: The ideal temperature is 30° to 35° F. with good humidity, this makes the crisper drawer in your refrigerator ideal. Store in a ventilated plastic bag or covered with a damp paper towel.  Do not store in the same drawer with oranges.
