VT Fresh increases client access to fresh fruits and vegetables by offering
cooking demonstrations and taste tests to visitors at food shelves and other community locations. VT Fresh has been implemented at 29 food shelves and is being offered during 12 VeggieVanGo produce distributions at hospitals and schools. We have also partnered with the YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program to offer VT Fresh to participants.
The program also increases food shelf capacity to stock fruits and vegetables. VT Fresh is inspired by behavioral economics research which has found that modifying the food environment can have a significant impact on food-related behaviors. VT Fresh incorporates strategies for improving the food environment with simple taste tests, displays, promotions and messaging tools that help make it easier for food shelf visitors to choose fruits and vegetables.
