Hunger Action Month

September is Hunger Action Month. What role can you play?

When we work together, small actions like giving a donation, joining a volunteer shift, and speaking up create a ripple effect. Every action builds a bridge toward stability, helping protect families and helping communities stay strong in the face of tough times.

What Is Hunger Action Month?

Find your part this Hunger Action Month. Give. Volunteer. Speak up. Because when neighbors care for neighbors, we don’t just work to end hunger, we help protect the communities we call home.

Farmers grow and harvest food that helps nourish communities. Advocates use their voices and stories to improve everyone’s access to food. Volunteers distribute fresh food and meals. Businesses organize food drives and fundraisers. Donors provide critical support that helps us meet the needs of our neighbors.

All of these efforts are needed – which role can you play?

WAYS YOU CAN TAKE ACTION

VOLUNTEER

“It’s rewarding to work for the Foodbank knowing I am helping them and to be a part of the team helping those in need... Helping the Foodbank provide for, care for, those in need gives me a purpose in life.”
– Mary, a Foodbank volunteer

Last year, 770 dedicated volunteers worked 8,595 hours to help get more food out to neighbors who need it.

ADVOCATE

“Food insecurity for any family in Vermont is not ok. We have an urgent and important need right now and we look to our state leaders to fund solutions to addressing hunger today.”
– Jennifer Fontaine, director of operations at Upper Valley Haven

Through advocacy, we are engaging our elected leaders to address hunger and the root causes of hunger by supporting policies that make a difference in the lives of people in Vermont. Join us to work toward a future where everyone in Vermont can thrive.

SHARE

“I love watching old movies, helping other people (within my capacity), and telling my story so hopefully people will realize there is always, always hope.”
– Michael, a community member utilizing 3SquaresVT

By sharing your story, you can help humanize the issue of hunger, raise awareness about food insecurity and resources in Vermont, help build new perspectives and break down assumptions about hunger in our state, and inspire others to engage and act.

GIVE

“Helping others makes us all feel good. I am grateful for the help I have received.”
– a recent donor to the Vermont Foodbank

Donations to the Vermont Foodbank have immediate impact for neighbors facing hunger—for example, donations help: provide backpacks of food for kids to take home when school’s out; fund monthly fresh produce distributions at 24 statewide locations; and provide food to more than 200 community partners, like food shelves and meal sites, across the state.
