As we witness the start of fall here in Vermont, we see the leaves change, the weather cool down, and 3SquaresVT (also known as SNAP or food stamps) benefits continue to rise. This October, many neighbors will be happy to know that their 3SquaresVT benefits have increased. What some folks may not be aware of is that this increase positively impacts eligibility as well. Now, more individuals than ever will be eligible to apply for 3SquaresVT.
With the holidays around the corner, now is a good time to examine your and your family’s needs. Nearly half of American households with children have reported they are not very confident they will be able to afford the needed food over the next four weeks.
3SquaresVT is one of the most important tools we have to combat year-round hunger. If you or someone you know is interested in learning more about the program or checking your eligibility, we encourage you to check out our 3SquaresVT pages. Our Outreach Team would love to answer your questions and assist you through the application process.
3SquaresVT (SNAP) provides help with groceries to about 61,000 people in Vermont. An estimated 60% of people who are eligible are not enrolled. Could you be one of them?
Summer in Vermont brings a bounty of local food. Here are five ways to stretch your food budget and eat local—get seeds and seedlings for your garden, get discounts at your local co-op, find free coupons at farmers markets, find free coupons at farm stands, and get a discount on your CSA farm share.
Starting March 1st, some Vermont neighbors could lose 3SquaresVT food benefits unless they report information to VT-Economic Services Division (VT-ESD) about work, volunteer hours, or certain life situations that excuse them from work requirements.
