Gleaning is the act of harvesting excess vegetables from farm fields that would otherwise not be harvested. Vermont Foodbank, with support from hundreds of volunteers and dozens of participating farms, operates the state’s largest gleaning food rescue program, which connects people in Vermont who are at risk of hunger with locally grown, fresh food.

Glean With Us

You can help connect neighbors with fresh, local food by volunteering to glean at area farms this season!

Gleaning is a fun, family-friendly volunteer opportunity and a great way to spend time on beautiful Vermont farms. Most of our partner gleaning farms open to volunteers are in Chittenden County and the greater Brattleboro region. Register below as a volunteer with Vermont Foodbank, and we'll send you email announcements about upcoming gleans and other volunteer opportunities. If you're representing a group and are interested in gleaning, please contact our Volunteer Services Team at

Thank You, Farmers!
