The Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food and Markets has coordinated an effort to recover raw milk from being disposed while creating a new, temporary food supply for the Vermont Foodbank.  In collaboration with the Vermont Community Foundation, $60,000 has been made available to purchase this milk for the benefit of Vermonters. These efforts are particularly important as Vermont’s dairy industry, like all sectors, has been challenged by COVID-19 but remain essential to Vermonters’ food supply.

The Vermont Foodbank is partnering with The Skinny Pancake to provide 20,000 meals to people in Vermont facing hunger over the next seven weeks. This unique partnership addresses the rapidly increasing food insecurity that has resulted from the coronavirus pandemic, while helping employ furloughed restaurant workers, supporting a local business, and providing a venue for food from local farmers.

The Vermont Foodbank and Vermont National Guard will distribute food to those in need at five different areas of Vermont beginning on Wednesday. These points of distribution will help ease demand on food shelves around that state that have seen a surge in demand.

Hannaford Supermarkets and its customers donated 18,124 pounds of food valued at $29,360 to the Vermont Foodbank as part of a hunger relief campaign that produced $1.4 million dollars in nutritious food and cash to food banks and pantries throughout the Northeast.

With the help of Citizens Bank, the Vermont Foodbank will continue to keep a new truck on the road delivering food to people in Vermont struggling with hunger

For the fifth year, Vermont Public Radio and the Vermont Foodbank are teaming up to give listeners an opportunity to support two important causes with one gift. For every gift to VPR on Giving Tuesday, the Vermont Community Foundation will provide the equivalent of 18 meals so that the Vermont Foodbank can help Vermonters facing hunger and food insecurity.
