I’m happy to let you know that our summer edition of Kernels is landing in mailboxes and available online. In this issue you’ll read about community leaders and their visions for food security and the Foodbank’s role in supporting those visions.

Local partners across Vermont, including schools and healthcare organizations, host fresh produce distribution events in partnership with Vermont Foodbank. Each month, a wonderful group of volunteers helps us share food with thousands of families and individuals.

Last week, the Budget Reconciliation was passed and signed by President Trump. This is not the outcome we worked for, and not the outcome America needs.

The State Legislative Session is over….for now. Legislators will be back for a veto session and more work on the education reform bill. At this time, there are no food security bills on the veto list! Here is the incredible progress we made together this year. From food access to farms to protecting school meals, our work will make a difference for neighbors across Vermont.

Vermont Foodbank applauds the work of the legislature and Governor Phil Scott for the passage and signing of bill H.167, into law on May 27th creating Act 34 of 2025 to establish a Vermonters Feeding Vermonters grant program at the Vermont Agency of Agriculture and Food Markets. 

Vermont Foodbank celebrated with community on Monday, June 2 from 3 pm to 5 pm, recognizing the completion of a nearly one-year renovation project that included significant improvements to the Foodbank’s Rutland Distribution Center.
